Illustrator Louis Benoit will take up the post of Artist in Residence at Halifax’s Borough Market from May through to June 2019. To really experience the market, the artists will work from one of the market’s central stalls.
Visitors to the market will be able to see Louis at work producing sketches and drawings observed and inspired by the unique sights, sounds and atmosphere of market, and are encouraged to come and watch, ask questions and chat.
The post is funded by Halifax BID, as part of their funding towards art in Halifax, and has been facilitated by Artworks, Halifax.
Louis’ residency will be followed by a second artist and a poet, with the resulting pieces forming part of an exhibition in the summer.
The work produced will form a lasting record of the life and ‘goings on’ of the wonderful, Victorian Halifax Borough Market, all from the unique view of artists.
